Minidisc transfer

In addition to audio editing and other types of post-production, I offer a minidisc transfer service. This may be useful to you if you have discs to transfer but are lacking the equipment (or simply the time - it is rather time consuming.).

Services available:

  • NB: Transfer from Hi-MD format currently not possible, only standard minidiscs - and only audio, not data discs.
  • Transfer to CD or DVD in MP3, WAV, AAC or any other digital, non-tape, format.
  • Transfer to audio CD (standard 'red book' format) - NB: if minidisc recorded in mono/LP, may fill multiple CDs
  • For audio CDs, I can specify is there is a gap between tracks or not, and if 'CD Text' is used
  • Transfer of files onto a USB memory stick/card format of your choice.
  • Feel free to ask for multiple copies in different formats.
  • Make available for immediate online download (cheapest, quickest method) - I can simply give you a URL, or if you use a free service such as Dropbox, the files will be synced to your computer without you needing to do anything.
  • If you don't want certain tracks copied, or want them in a different order, please ask.
  • Likewise if you want two or more tracks joined together in a single file.
  • If you have recordings you'd like to make available online, I can provide hosting services (and setup podcast feeds.)
  • Editing: Should you want to improve the quality of your recording but don't have the time/facilities to do it yourself, I can remove mistakes, stutters, pauses, extraneous noise or attempt to equalise individual voices recorded at different volumes. There's a separate price for this but I'm happy to look at your material and give you a quote beforehand. More about editing and post production »

Returning your original discs:

  • return them (if you want them back) by ordinary post or a courier of your choice.
  • wipe them and put a blank label on before returning them, so you can reuse them immediately

Important notes:

  • Sorry, I'm unable to process discs recorded in Hi-MD format, only standard Minidisc.
  • I will only make single copies of copyright material.
  • Whilst I will take genuine care with your items I can't be held responsible if they are lost/damaged in the post. Please pack discs safely in a jiffy bag and use recorded delivery where necessary.
  • If you've deleted a minidisc track by accident I'm afraid I'm unable to recover it as I don't own the necessary specialist equipment to rebuild the disc's ToC (Table of Contents) - however I can suggest people who may be able to provide this service. If you're in that situation, whatever you do, don't record anything else onto the disc, otherwise you will reduce your chances of getting your recording back.

  • Approx. £20 per disc for minidisc to CD/DVD or vice-versa (P&P - Royal Mail - from £1.50 - or courier - from £10)
  • Just £18 per disc if you only want the files online (ask for a quote for the flash memory format of your choice.)
  • Discounts for high volumes. Usual hourly rate £30/hour.
  • CDs and DVDs come with a slim plastic jewel case. If you want a professionally printed CD label/case insert, you can supply text/graphics/your own design and I will give you a quote.
  • Normally I will only invoice you once the work is complete.
  • Payment by cheque, BACS or a credit/debit card using Google Checkout or Paypal.
  • No VAT is payable as my turnover is below HMRC's VAT registration threshold.
